From Demonstrator to Commercial Aircraft
Zuri has unveiled its first planned commercial product: a hybrid-electric uncrewed cargo aircraft designed to combine vertical takeoff and landing with long-range, wing-borne flight. Intended for civil and defense operators, the aircraft targets missions ranging from offshore deliveries and island resupply to disaster relief and logistics in areas where sending people would carry additional risk.
The aircraft’s published design targets include a cruising speed of 220 km/h and a range of 679 km with a 115 kg payload, or 569 km with a full 30-minute reserve. Its maximum payload is 145 kg. These are development targets, not demonstrated performance figures for a production aircraft.
The cargo aircraft will build on Technology Demonstrator 2.0, or TD 2.0, Zuri’s full-scale hybrid-electric test aircraft. As of October 10, 2026, TD 2.0 is undergoing systems integration and ground testing near Prague. Its first flight is planned for Q2 2027, subject to successful completion of ground testing.
TD 2.0 brings together technologies previously tested separately: full-scale vertical flight, transition at subscale, flight controls, and the hybrid-electric powertrain. Its flight-test campaign will expand progressively from hover to transition and wing-borne cruise, validating how the complete architecture performs in the air. The resulting airframe experience, validated systems, and test data will support development of the uncrewed cargo product.
Zuri says it has flown more than fifteen aircraft since 2018 and demonstrated full-scale hover in 2021. The company identifies six of its eight tracked engineering risks as retired, although integrated flight testing and the cargo interface remain development priorities. Full-scale validation of the complete architecture is still ahead.
Hybrid Power for Longer Missions
The architecture combines eight tilting electric rotors, a wing, batteries, and an onboard piston-engine generator. The rotors provide vertical lift before tilting forward for cruise, when the wing carries the aircraft’s weight. The generator and battery system work together to supply electrical power.
The piston engine is designed to operate on AVGAS, automotive gasoline, or bioethanol. Zuri’s approach uses liquid fuel to extend range while retaining electric propulsion and vertical takeoff and landing capability. The flight-test campaign will evaluate power delivery, energy management, transition control, and system redundancy under actual flight conditions.
For operators, the proposed cargo aircraft offers a way to move supplies between locations without relying on a runway. Its intended applications include deliveries to offshore platforms, islands, remote facilities, and other sites where conventional ground transport is slow or unavailable. Zuri also envisions missions carrying sensors or communications equipment rather than cargo.
Two Aircraft, Different Roles
TD 2.0 is a technology demonstrator, not the commercial cargo aircraft. Its specifications and purpose should therefore remain distinct from the performance targets of the planned product.
| Specification | Technology Demonstrator 2.0 | Planned Uncrewed Cargo Aircraft |
| Development status | Systems integration and ground testing | In development |
| Wingspan | 9.7 meters | Not specified in the cited comparison |
| Maximum takeoff weight | 690 kg | Not specified in the cited comparison |
| Cruise speed | 200 km/h | 220 km/h |
| Maximum speed | Not specified | 240 km/h |
| Range | 200–250 km under visual flight rules | 679 km design range; 569 km with a full 30-minute reserve |
| Payload | Not specified as a commercial cargo rating | 115 kg design payload; 145 kg maximum |
| Next milestone | First flight planned for Q2 2027 | Development informed by TD 2.0’s flight-test campaign |
The demonstrator’s figures remain under validation, while the cargo aircraft’s published figures describe its intended configuration and performance.
Funding the Next Stage
Zuri is raising a €6 million first tranche of its Series A, with €1.1 million committed by existing investors. The company says the tranche will fund TD 2.0’s first flight and full flight-test campaign, advance the first uncrewed cargo aircraft, and support the planned SAIL III approval pathway.
The company reports €7.6 million raised since 2018, including the €1.1 million committed to the Series A. Commercial deliveries are planned within a 2027–2029 window, supported by later funding tranches. That schedule remains dependent on flight-test results, development progress, and regulatory authorization.
Cargo First, Passenger Aircraft Later
Zuri plans to pursue cargo operations through EASA’s Specific category, with individual operations assessed through the Specific Operations Risk Assessment, or SORA, and authorized by the competent national aviation authority. This is the company’s planned regulatory route, not an announcement that operational approval has already been granted.
The cargo aircraft is the first commercial step in a broader family of aircraft. Zuri’s longer-term vision is a six-seat passenger aircraft using the same core architecture, with cargo revenue intended to help support the later passenger certification program. Design, construction, and testing take place in-house near Prague, and the company describes its platform as ITAR-free and based on a European supply chain.
