Vertical Aerospace has announced a long-term supplier partnership with advanced materials company Syensqo to provide the composite and adhesive technologies required for the production of its VX4 electric aircraft.
The agreement solidifies the supply chain for the aircraft’s primary structure as Vertical moves toward certification, currently targeted for 2028. Syensqo’s high-performance composite and adhesive materials, which were utilized in Vertical’s prototype program, will now be integrated across the entire structure of the certification aircraft. These materials are selected to provide the lightweight strength, structural efficiency, and durability necessary for the high-cycle operations inherent to electric vertical flight.
Securing these specific advanced composites is a critical step in ensuring the VX4 can withstand the stresses of repeated take-offs and landings while maintaining safety and performance standards at scale. The physical airframe utilizing these materials will be manufactured by Aciturri, a global aerostructures supplier, supporting Vertical’s transition into full commercial production.
Stuart Simpson, CEO, Vertical Aerospace, said, “We are bringing the VX4 to market alongside leading global partners, and deepening our successful partnership with Syensqo as our advanced-materials supplier is a vital step in that journey. Their decades of expertise in lightweight, high-performance composites – combined with our shared commitment to safety and certification – will help us deliver a resilient, agile aircraft as we progress toward commercial operations.”
Syensqo contributes extensive aerospace experience to the program, having supplied advanced materials to numerous leading aircraft manufacturers and defense companies. This background is viewed as a strategic asset as Vertical advances its platform for both civil and defense applications.
Rodrigo Elizondo, President Syensqo Composite Materials, added, “We are honored to deepen our collaboration with Vertical. Our advanced composite and adhesive technologies are designed to push the boundaries of lightweighting and performance, supporting the VX4’s journey toward safer, cleaner and more efficient air mobility. As Vertical moves into certification and industrialization, we look forward to bringing our scientific expertise and strong customer partnership to support the VX4’s successful entry into full-scale production.”
This partnership formalizes a core component of the supply chain alongside other key partners such as Honeywell. Vertical plans to unveil its new aircraft design on 10 December in London, where it will showcase the VX4’s certification-ready architecture, along with details regarding passenger and luggage capacity.
