Archer Aviation has revealed plans to launch new trials of its air taxis, following the Department of Transportation’s unveiling of a new eVTOL framework.
Air Taxi Programs Take Flight
Archer Aviation is among several companies’ developing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft to address urban mobility challenges. Often referred to as “air taxis,” these vehicles will soon see new skies under Archer’s newly announced plan to partner with multiple cities.
The eVTOL Integration Pilot Program
Supporting this plan is the new eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP), which is part of an executive order by President Donald Trump aimed at accelerating air taxi adoption. The DOT and FAA have partnered on the eIPP to advance early eVTOL operations by bringing together location regulators and industry partners.
Trial Rollout
Archer has a goal of establishing local infrastructure in major cities, including measures that involve public safety and emergency services. The company refers to these as “proposed public-private partnerships” and says they’ll include major cities in New York, California, Texas, Florida, and Georgia. Archer’s plans include submitting applications to “launch initial air taxi operations.”
Notably, Archer will undertake an exclusive program with the city of Huntington Beach in preparation for possible air taxi applications around the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
