USSOCOM Opportunity for Advanced UAS Technologies

The U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), through SOFWERX and PEO-TIS, has released a Special Notice seeking industry, academic and national laboratory participation in an upcoming assessment event focused on advanced Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

The current effort is specifically focused on Channelized Wing Hybrid Electric VTOL UAS concepts for Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions. White papers are due June 12, 2026, with a virtual Q&A scheduled for June 8, 2026.

While the technical requirements are highly specialized, we encourage VFS members to review the notice carefully. More importantly, we encourage companies, universities and research organizations to engage with SOFWERX and USSOCOM whenever opportunities like this arise. Establishing visibility with government stakeholders today can create pathways for future prototype projects, demonstrations, OTAs, research partnerships and follow-on production opportunities.

Many successful government-industry collaborations begin with participation in technology assessments and market research efforts, even when an organization is not ultimately selected for the immediate program.

If your organization is working on advanced UAS, VTOL aircraft, hybrid-electric propulsion, autonomy, ISR platforms, logistics systems, distributed operations or related technologies, this is a good opportunity to become familiar with the process and engage with the customer.
