- The Seaglider vessel operates exclusively on water, employing a foil mode ahead of take-off
- Latest sea trial in campaign tests the vessel’s hydrofoiling capability on water ahead of full flight sea trial later this year
Sea trials of the Viceroy Seaglider vessel prototype are advancing rapidly, with REGENT Craft announcing the successful completion of its first foil-mode testing. Following the initial float-mode test in March, this marks a significant step forward in the development of Seaglider vessels, aiming for the first human-crewed flight later this summer.
REGENT’s Seaglider vessels are pioneering regional coastal transportation. Unlike traditional seaplanes and flying boats, the Seaglider vessel employs a hybrid approach, combining floating, foiling, and flying modes. The recently tested foiling mode elevates the vessel from the water before it flies, allowing for immediate speed, easy maneuverability, and smoother, safer, more comfortable rides.
Billy Thalheimer, CEO at REGENT Craft, said: “The recent success of our first foil testing is a major milestone in our sea trials. We are excited to move into the next phase and bring the Seaglider vessel one step closer to transforming coastal travel.”
REGENT’s Seaglider vessels are classified as boats, not aircrafts, and therefore they are regulated and certified in the U.S. by the U.S. Coast Guard and by maritime authorities in countries around the world and captained by certified mariners.
Other recent developments further highlight the Seaglider vessel’s potential across passenger travel, cargo transport, defense operations, and offshore energy logistics. Notable milestones include UrbanLink’s expanded order for the vessel, U.S. Marine Corps Warfighting Lab extending its collaboration with a $10 million contract extension, and ADNOC Logistics and Services’ trial of the craft in the UAE. REGENT is also advancing its collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard, with commercial maritime certification expected later this year for the Seaglider vessel.

The 12-passenger Viceroy seaglider prototype, at 55ft long with a 65ft wingspan, is the largest-ever all-electric flying machine and represents a novel mode of transportation. The high-speed vessel operates exclusively over water in three modes — floating on the hull, foiling above the waves on hydrofoils, and flying in ground effect within one wingspan of the surface of the water.
