De campagne, uitgevoerd vanuit Spaceport America in het White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) luchtruim in New Mexico, valideerde de voorspelde aerodynamische effici\u00ebntie van de laminare-flow ontwerptechnologie van het vliegtuig tijdens de vlucht.<\/p>\n<p>De drone werd deels gefinancierd onder een contract van 24 maanden met de Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) en het Operational Energy Capability Improvement Fund (OECIF) om onderzoek te bevorderen voor DARPA's Energy Web Aircraft (EWA) programma. Het EWA-programma, gericht op power-beaming en de exploratie van gedistribueerde energiewebben, beoogde laser-gebaseerde energieoverdracht over lange afstanden mogelijk te maken door gebruik te maken van luchtrelays om energie naar vliegtuigen te stralen, waardoor deze mogelijk oneindig in de lucht konden blijven. De vandaag aangekondigde flight-test campagne was een ontwikkelingsinspanning gefinancierd door Otto Aerospace, onafhankelijk uitgevoerd en buiten de reikwijdte van het DARPA- en OECIF-contract.<\/p>\n<p>Otto's rol richtte zich op de ontwikkeling van een luchtframe met een zeer laminaire stroming en een hoge effici\u00ebntie.
